Residential Pontoons Sunshine Coast

Marine Structures designs, manufactures, and installs residential pontoons for Sunshine Coast waterfront properties. From calm canal estates to riverfront homes and waterfront properties, we provide complete pontoon solutions built for local conditions.

Residential Pontoon Installation on the Sunshine Coast

Sunshine Coast waterways vary from sheltered canals and lakes to tidal rivers and open water frontage. A pontoon suited to a calm canal property in Pelican Waters may not be the same system required for a riverfront home along the Maroochy River, Mooloolah River or Noosa River.

Our team assesses your site, vessel, water movement and access requirements before recommending the right pontoon system. Every pontoon is built to marina-grade standards using durable materials suited to Australian marine environments.

Pontoon Types for Sunshine Coast Waterfront Properties

Piled Pontoons

Piled pontoons are the most secure option for Sunshine Coast properties exposed to tidal movement, wind, wash or stronger currents, such as riverfront homes along the Maroochy River or Mooloolah River. Steel piles are driven into the seabed, allowing the pontoon to move up and down with changing water levels while remaining securely positioned.

The gangway sits on top of the pontoon and pivots with the tide, keeping access level and safe whether the water is high or low. For larger vessels, exposed sites, or properties with significant tidal range, a piled pontoon gives the strength and stability that strut or cable systems can’t match, making it the preferred choice for many riverfront homes outside the calmer canal estates.

Strut Pontoons

Strut pontoons are a practical and cost-effective option for many sheltered Sunshine Coast waterfront homes, particularly canal estates around Pelican Waters and other low-exposure residential waterways. An aluminium strut and the gangway connect at opposite ends of the pontoon to concrete mooring blocks on shore, with both hinged to move freely as the tide rises and falls. Diagonal stainless steel cables brace the pontoon against side-to-side movement.

This system works well where the water is calm, the seabed is firm close to shore, and the vessel is a standard recreational size, making it one of the most common setups for canal-front homes on the Sunshine Coast.

Cable Pontoons

Cable pontoons are the simplest and most economical pontoon option. They are best suited to sheltered locations with low exposure, such as canals, lakes and calm residential waterways.

For smaller recreational vessels or straightforward waterfront access, a cable pontoon can be a practical choice. Our team can advise whether this system is suitable for your property.

Black Series Pontoons

The Black Series is Marine Structures’ premium residential pontoon range, with matching black finishes across key visible components including pedestals, pile caps, gangways, ladders, light posts, sinks and seats for a sleek, cohesive waterfront look.

It offers a sleek, modern finish while using the same strong construction as our standard Superior Pontoons range, including 50 MPa concrete decks, marine-grade aluminium framing and GFRP reinforcing bars.

Sunshine Coast Pontoon Approvals and Council Requirements

Residential pontoon installations on Sunshine Coast waterways may require tidal works approval, usually through an operational works application with Sunshine Coast Council and, where required, referral to the State Assessment and Referral Agency. Our engineering team understands the local application process and can manage the required approvals as part of the project.

Pontoon FAQs for Sunshine Coast Homeowners

Do I need approval for a residential pontoon on the Sunshine Coast?

Residential pontoon projects on the Sunshine Coast  require approval through Sunshine Coast Council, with some applications also referred to the State Assessment and Referral Agency. Marine Structures can help manage the approval process as part of your project.

What type of pontoon suits a Sunshine Coast canal property?

Sheltered canal properties may suit a strut pontoon or cable pontoon, depending on the site conditions, vessel size and budget. Our team will assess your property before recommending the right option.

Can I install a pontoon on a tidal river property?

Yes, subject to site suitability and approvals. Tidal riverfront properties often require a stronger system, such as a piled pontoon, to handle changing water levels and movement.

Can I add a jet ski dock or boat lift?

Yes. We can include jet ski docks, boat lifts and other accessories as part of a complete waterfront setup.

How much maintenance does a residential pontoon need?

Our pontoons are built with durable marine-grade materials, including aluminium framing, concrete decks and GFRP reinforcing bars, helping reduce maintenance in harsh marine conditions.
