Superior will provide a serene and stable on-water platform for some of the country’s most talented performers, dancing under the stars, centre stage in Currumbin Estuary as part of this year’s Bleach* Festival, 4 to 20 March 2016

Superior’s Elite pontoon will be the floating stage for some of the stars of the Queensland Ballet performing in an original production, titled“Shifting Sands”.

Working with the Gold Coast’s world famous natural landscapes as unconventional venues, Bleach* Festival celebrates the city’s best artists, as well as welcoming renowned Australian and international collaborators in a range of accessible events.

The world premiere of Shifting Sands is a free, outdoor extravaganza, unlike anything the Gold Coast has ever seen, supported – quite literally – by Superior Jetties.

Hovering on the tidal waters of the Currumbin Estuary, Superior’s Elite pontoon will provide the stage, while the sand of the creek banks will form the seating and the surrounding vantage points are the perfect natural auditorium for large audiences.

“We are anticipating an audience of between 2,000 and 3,000,” states Creative Director, Donna Jackson. “The Superior pontoon will be the only fixed point in a performance that will be continually dynamic, showing how people from all walks of life use the water.”

Shifting Sands will involve a cast of 60, plus five talented dogs, and feature a stunning performance by the Queensland Ballet’s Jette Parker, subtle soundscapes, stand up paddle boards, kayaks, life savers, dragon boats, synchronised swimmers, circus and dance, accompanied by narration from local voices and the sounds of accomplished songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Bobby Alu.

“Superior’s pontoon will be called upon to extend our usable space for a diversity of uses. It has to be stable, secure, safe, anchored stage for the performers, and demonstrates that man-made objects are important parts of our aquatic landscape too.”

Superior CEO, John Hogan says he believes Bleach* Festival is integral to the identity and sense of place of Gold Coasters and visitors to this special place and he is proud to be a Gold Sponsor, supporter and participant in this original production.

“We will be providing a great stable platform on which to present this amazing visual spectacle under the rays of the setting sun,” he says.

“Just as a pontoon is an intimate extension of the on-water experience, so too is Bleach* an homage to our aquatic fixation. Over four nights for Shifting Sands, the Elite pontoon will be an esoteric prop for dance, drama, performance, appreciation of the natural environment and a practical station for receiving all kinds of vessels, from standup paddleboards to luxury tenders – just as it is at a marina or residence.

“Superior is thrilled to be part of this iconic Gold Coast festival with global reach, particularly in the lead up to the 2018 Commonwealth Games when the spotlight will be on our region and its incredible diversity, natural assets and vibrant culture.”
