Description
NSW Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) appointed John Holland Pty Ltd (John Holland) to construct a new bridge over Batemans Bay and a new pontoon facility adjacent to the existing T-Wharf southeast of the bridge, accessible from the foreshore via a gangway. The design brief specified an economical, heavy-duty pontoon to withstand the weather conditions encountered in this location and with low maintenance. The scope of works included the detailed design, fabrication and installation of a new floating pontoon structure, with low freeboard kayak steps and a DDA compliant gangway.
The impressive heavy-duty, 5 sided Super Elite pontoon system fitted this brief perfectly and measures 75m long x 6m wide.
The 22-metre gangway manufactured from marine grade aluminium is complete with handrails and kick rail and fabricated for 4KpA DDA compliant public access.
Solar lights are mounted on the piles and gangway for public access at night. The pontoon will be used for visitors, cruise ship tenders and commercial vessels.
