Description
The redevelopment of the iconic Cockle Bay Wharf in Sydney followed years of design and planning with many features, including hidden telescopic piles, ramps and seating areas, flowing disabled access throughout and innovative LED lighting that really wows the site at night.
Many of the architectural effects are unusual – predominantly the curved concrete pontoon structure itself that is the foundation on which a timber cladding with ramps is built. The 250m long floating walkway has 12 x telescopic piles that secure the position and a berthing area with fender piles. The Superior Super Elite™ reinforced concrete wall pontoons feature curved external walls that flow harmoniously along the waterfront under a striking quality timber boardwalk. The aluminium gangways have double 178 x 178 x 9mm top and bottom cords and are up to 21m long x 3.5m wide. They were fully pulse welded using the 90kW solar system installed at the Superior plant so the fully recyclable aluminium was fabricated using sustainable practices.
